Fact Sheet The Importance of Essential Fatty Acids EFA's and Our Pets
Our pets diet is so important to their overall health and well-being. Feeding dry, commercial dog foods, which are often over-processed thus robbing them of essential vitamins, minerals, and fats, is not enough to keep them in peak health. Animals, just as humans, require EFA's for proper and healthy body functions! Studies of animals deprived of EFA's show that they: Develop bad skin and hair loss Cannot resist infections Do not have proper collagen formation Become infertile, a rapid process in males Develop painful, swollen joints Develop liver damage Become lethargic and irritable (Graham, 1989, and Burr, 1929) A lack of EFA's in our pets bodies can result in dry skin and lackluster coats, as well as a myriad of other health problems. Adding EFA's to the diet of our pets results in healthier skin and coats and much improved overall health. It dramatically reduces such conditions as hot spots, dry and itchy skin, dull coats, and the discomfort associated with such problems. When applied topically to superficial cuts and wounds, the healing properties of Emu Oil are very effective. Some breeds of dogs, such as the Golden Retriever, do not produce some EFA's and therefore must rely upon supplementation. But regardless of breed or type, all animals, including cats, can benefit from the addition of EFA's to their diet. Aboriginal Oil Gel-Caps can be given to pets to help supplement their diets. Just two to three caps per day will result in shiny coats and healthy skin, as well as reduce or eliminate skin irritations and eczema's, and bring about improvement to your pet's overall health.
